investigators with mobile crime lab taking pictures of evidence. police have not made arrests. a man oakland is counting on to turn things around started work today. hiring of the former l.a. police chief was a controversial choice. abc 7 news is live now from the police department where the lawman turned consultant held a news conference this afternoon. >> bratton brought in to develop a crime prevention plan and he says there will be success and people start feeling differently about their safety. now, bratton has been in oakland about 72 hours in sunday going on police ride alongs and stopping at a murder scene. now, oakland's problem is his problem. the goal to bring down rising number of violent crimes with this apartment he acknowledges is under staffed. he says the plan to come up with new ways to use state and local law enforcement and a crime tracking computer system. >> this is a wonderful situation near oakland. there is a lot of opportunities here to make some early gains. very quickly. and i think you're going to see some of the gains are going to be made quickly. >> our officer

connecting oakland and or yinda. today, abc 7 news got a look inside of the new tunnel and joins us live from oakland. heather? >> hi, ama. 1937 is a very big year for bay area transportation. that is when the golden gate bridge opened and the first two caldecott tunnels. 2013 is going to be bigger, one for the record books. we have the opening of devil's slide tunnel followed by the opening of the bay bridge by the caldecott fourth floor. but today, elbow grease and shovels were still a preferred method for the work. at the same time, work has just begun on a major milestone, putting in a roadway. this rocky material is the subbase loose, rocky for drainage. layers of material will fill two to three feet reach together shoulder curve and to just below pedestrian walkway on another. when finished it will carry westbound traffic only. >> with construction tlb two tunnels dedicated to eastbound traffic. that will eliminate the traffic shifts and pop ups. >> fourth floor has a number safety features including jet fans yet to be hung. they'll help in fire fighting and air quality. >> they can rev

. let's go back to that shooting in oakland. gunfire broke out about an hour ago. a child has been wounded. abc 7 news is live on the scene for us. >> that is right. we're able to confirm that there was a young girl involved. she was injured perhaps we're told grazed by a bullet or perhaps cut by glass. that is what police are telling me. she was treated here at the scene and then, taken the hocht. it happened after 5:00 this evening. neighbors heard gunfire, there were several when we got here, seven casings on the groundful. we don't know who the intended target was. this happened on 82nd avenue and a street. this is an ongoing situation. when arriving here, this area was full of police officers and now, you can see there are only two officers still investigating. >> thank you. abc 7 news learned the people killed in the horrible fiery crash were from petta luma. a big rig driver chokd on food, passed out and then, hit three cars. people are mourning the loss of the cutchel. >> we're on cascade court where the 76-year-old and 74-year-old lived for many years. neighbors here canno
